Who is Kiwanis?
Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor. We are members and volunteers dedicated to serving the children and families of our community. Membership includes people from Ann Arbor and across southeast Michigan. In 2023 we provided over 44,000 volunteer hours. The Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor was chartered on June 13, 1921. The Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor Foundation, Inc. was incorporated as a domestic nonprofit organization with the State of Michigan on November 4, 1964. The Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor Foundation was recognized by the US Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt nonprofit (501(c)(3) corporation on March 17, 1965. The Club and Foundation were located in downtown Ann Arbor in its own building at 200 S. First St. from 1966 – 2017. That building was sold in 2017. The Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor Foundation purchased a 123,000 sq. ft. building with 17 acres at 100 N. Staebler Rd, Ann Arbor in 2014. All Kiwanis activities including the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor Foundation’s Thrift Sale were moved to this new location as of January 2018. In 2022 our Kiwanis Foundation purchased an additional 3.8 acres and its small buildings located adjacent and just north of our main building.
Since 1921 through the proceeds from our Foundation’s Kiwanis Foundation Thrift Sale, gifts and work from our members, volunteers and staff, we have provided over $11,332,500 in grants, services, and merchandise to children, families, and individuals across our community.
Our Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor Foundation’s major service project, the Kiwanis Foundation Thrift Sale, prior to COVID-19, used to be open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays (except holidays). However during the months of April through August 2020, our sale was closed due to COVID-19. We re-opened on Saturdays only, between September 19, through November 14, 2020. However, on November 21, 2020, the Kiwanis Thrift Sale temporarily closed again on Saturdays out of an abundance of caution and concern for the continued safety of our volunteers, members staff, and customers. AS OF APRIL 3, 2021, we re-opened the KIWANIS THRIFT SALE on Saturdays. Then on May 21, 2021 we again opened on Fridays. AS OF JANUARY 6, 2023, WE ARE OPEN FRIDAYS 9AM TO 1PM AND SATURDAYS 9AM TO 3PM. WE MAY CLOSE ON SOME HOLIDAYS AND DUE TO WEATHER. AS OF MAY 2021, WE ONCE AGAIN STARTED ACCEPTING DROP OFF DONATIONS ON SATURDAYS ONLY, WEATHER PERMITTING. DROP OFF HOURS ARE SEASONAL. CHECK THE KIWANIS THRIFT SALE website for the latest information. Hope to see you soon. Thank you for your understanding and on-going support throughout the years. Stay safe. Stay healthy.
